18 – SECCA DI BUDELLI

West of Budelli, along the southern side of the island, lies the Sommo dello Zoppo, better known as Secca di Budelli and marked with this name on nautical charts. The top of the shoal is generally shallower than 10 m, although the most spectacular section of the dive lies around 30 m. The underwater morphology is impressive, with huge granite monoliths, sharp ridges and pinnacles. The eastern, inner side is usually the richest in marine life, with beautiful gorgonian-covered walls and channels where sponges, shrimps and small European lobsters occupy the rocky crevices. Its exposed position also makes the site particularly promising for encounters with pelagic fish such as barracuda and dentex, and occasionally even ocean sunfish.
