17 – SPARGIOTTELLO

Spargiottello is a beautiful circular shoal located south-west of the islet of the same name. The main formation begins at around 5 m and reaches approximately 27 m on its deeper side. A series of pinnacles and large boulders surrounding the shoal often shelter impressive dusky groupers. Because of its proximity to the Strait of Bonifacio, keeping an eye on the blue is always worthwhile: almost any pelagic species may pass through. South of the main summit, a smaller shoal can host a small school of barracuda during the quieter summer periods. The shallow top is rich in colourful reef fish including ornate wrasse, painted comber, white seabream and sharpsnout seabream, making the safety stop itself an enjoyable part of the dive.
